The 2024 edition of the Australian Critical Minerals Map displays the location, operating status, and mineral commodity type of the nation’s mines and deposits associated with Australia’s Critical Minerals List.

This map shows the locations and status of Australian operating mines, mines under development, mines on care and maintenance and mineral deposits associated with a critical mineral resource as of December 2024.

Some key observations include:

  • Almost 500 deposits with a reported critical mineral resource were identified.
  • Sixteen new deposits of critical minerals were identified, including graphite, cobalt, niobium and lithium.
  • Sixty-eight existing and publicly announced processing facilities for critical minerals and strategic materials were identified.

Congratulations to the team at Geoscience Australia on another fantastic public resource
