Contact our Project Leader: Masood Mostofi (Curtin University)
The MinEx CRC team at Curtin University are currently preparing their ‘Hobby’ fluid automotaion technology for field deployment. with the mechanical structure fabricated, main components installed, and sensors and controls being installed, we will soon move into labĀ commissioning.
Hobby Fluid Automation is built to completely automate the workflow of drilling fluid preparation and management. This technology will showcase how data-driven optimisation can significantly improve the efficiency and performance of conventional drilling operations.
This technology will make drilling simpler and smarter, with full automation and analytics enabling optimisation.
It has an onboard tank to transport and reuse drilling fluids between boreholes, along with a solid separation system that removes both coarse and fine particles.
Hobby uses our Universal Drilling Fluid (UDF), and our algorithms adjust concentration of UDF based on pre-drill plans and real-time conditions.
Hobby connects to the drilling rig and water truck, cleaning and reusing fluids automatically, while adding water when needed. This makes fluid management more efficient and environmentally friendly.
With the commissioning now underway, we look forward to our deployments starting from January 2025.
