MinEx CRC has been featured in the latest edition of Coring Magazine, highlighting outcomes from the National Drilling Initiative (NDI) and the role of advanced drilling technologies and national collaboration in unlocking Australia’s mineral potential beneath deep cover.

Authored by CEO Andrew Bailey, the case study showcases how NDI campaigns across Western Australia and South Australia are delivering new pre-competitive geological data in underexplored regions. Through the integration of coiled tubing (CT) drilling and partnerships with Geological Surveys, industry and research organisations, the program is improving geological understanding while reducing exploration risk.

A key focus of the article is the Northern Gawler Craton NDI campaign in South Australia, where drilling successfully penetrated hundreds of metres of cover to access basement geology. The program delivered high-quality samples and integrated datasets, supporting new insights into tectonic history, stratigraphy and mineral prospectivity in the region.

In Western Australia, the Nifty NDI campaign in the Yeneena Basin has also delivered important new insights into sediment-hosted copper mineralisation systems. Ongoing analysis is delivering new insights into mineralisation processes, including the role of multiple fluid events and hydrothermal overprinting.
