MinEx CRC is pleased to share the exciting news that Maryam Abdollahi (Curtin University) has formally qualified for her PhD thesis titled:

‘Flow Behaviour and Fluid Loss Mechanisms of Polymer-Based Drilling Fluids in High-Permeability Porous Media: An Experimental Study’.

Maryam was supervised by Masood Mostofi, Thomas Richard, Dimple Quyn (all Curtin University) and Yevhen Kovalyshen (CSIRO).

Maryam’s research investigated how polymer-based drilling fluids behave when used in highly permeable geological formations, where fluid loss can affect drilling efficiency, borehole stability and core recovery. Maryam evaluated different polymer-based fluid formulations and their ability to control fluid loss as they move through porous materials.

Throughout her candidature, Maryam has been a passionate and enthusiastic member of our postgraduate cohort. Beyond her research, Maryam was a valued addition to the MinEx CRC Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, where she represented the postgraduate student voice. Her involvement reflected her commitment to ensuring postgraduate perspectives were represented across the CRC.

A big congratulations to Dr Abdollahi and her supervisory team!
